Courthouse FAQs
Straight answers to the questions we get most.
Lamoreaux Justice Center handles juvenile, traffic and family law matters for Orange County — a different case-type split than Central Justice Center's general criminal docket, similar in shape to the juvenile and adult courthouse pairs found throughout Los Angeles County's system.
That distinction matters more than the address does. If the person taken into custody is a minor, the case is a juvenile matter and Lamoreaux is the building, regardless of which city the arrest happened in or which justice center that city's adult criminal cases are designated to.
Juvenile custody also works differently. There is no bail schedule to post against in the way there is for an adult booking: a minor is held in juvenile hall and released to a parent or guardian by court or probation decision, not by a bond. What we can do here is tell you honestly what applies to your situation before you spend money — and handle the bond if the case is being filed as an adult matter.
Court Calendar
Monday to Friday, excluding court holidays. Individual departments start at different times — the notice to appear prints the department and the time.
Public Counter
Weekday business hours. The court does not publish a counter schedule on its own location page, so call before making the drive.
Weekends & Holidays
Closed. No filings, no counter, no hearings.
Jail Bail Window
The Intake Release Center cashier in Santa Ana takes bail 24 hours a day, including every day this courthouse is dark.
What We Have Not Confirmed
“Our son was booked in Santa Ana on a Saturday and the courthouse was closed until Monday. They posted the bond that night and explained exactly which justice center the case would be heard at.”
Marisol R. · Orange County, CA
“I had no idea the jail and the courthouse were two different places in two different cities. One phone call and they handled all of it. No office visit, everything signed from my kitchen table.”
David K. · Orange County, CA
“Straight answers about what it would cost before I paid anything, and they put the court date in writing so we could not miss it. That mattered more than anything else.”
Angela T. · Orange County, CA
Adult criminal charges are filed at Central, Harbor, North or West Justice Center — not at Lamoreaux. These pages are here because a family often has both: a juvenile or family matter at Lamoreaux and an adult case elsewhere in the county.

The City Drive South in Orange runs between the 22 Freeway and Chapman Avenue, in the same corridor as Theo Lacy and the county's juvenile facilities. It is a county campus rather than a downtown block.
There is on-site public parking on the county campus. We have not confirmed a current rate or capacity with the court, so allow extra time on a busy calendar morning.
Every justice center in Orange County is a full-security building — everyone passes through weapons screening at the entrance. Arrive early enough that the line is not the reason a hearing is missed.
The court's own online case index is the authoritative source for the next date and department. A third-party records site is not. Confirm at occourts.org, or call us and we will confirm it for you.
Cases where a minor is accused of an offense. Detention and release decisions run through the court and probation, not a bail schedule.
Child welfare matters. These are not criminal cases and no bond applies.
Dissolution, custody and support calendars for the county.
Protective order calendars. A restraining order can carry conditions that a criminal case elsewhere then enforces — the two can run in parallel.
Traffic and infraction calendars designated here, including matters that can escalate to a warrant if ignored.
A missed appearance on any of these calendars can generate a warrant. If a warrant already exists, we can walk you through how it is cleared before anyone drives to the courthouse.
Juvenile custody is not a bail transaction. A minor is held in juvenile hall and released by court or probation decision, so there is no bond to post. The framework below applies when the case is being handled as an adult criminal matter.
Under California Penal Code §1269b, the county bail schedule sets an amount at booking, before anyone sees a judge. That is the figure a bond is written against.
Penal Code §1269bPenal Code §1270.1 requires a hearing before release on certain serious charges, and the judge can raise, lower, or set conditions at arraignment.
Penal Code §1270.1Insurance Code §1800 governs bail premiums in California. Ten percent of the bond, with as low as 1% down for qualifying cosigners on a written plan.
Insurance Code §1800In re Humphrey (2021) requires courts to consider whether a person can actually afford the amount set, and Article I §12 governs when bail can be denied outright.
In re Humphrey (2021)Bail can be denied entirely in a narrow set of cases under Article I, §12 of the California Constitution. In every other case there is an amount, and an amount can be bonded.
A bond is filed at the facility physically holding the defendant, not at the courthouse. In Orange County that is almost always the Santa Ana jail complex, where the cashier window runs 24 hours a day.

The county's juvenile custody facility, on the same campus. Release is a court or probation decision, not a bail transaction.

Generally no. Juvenile custody does not run on the adult bail schedule — a minor is detained and released by court or probation decision, and the case is heard at Lamoreaux. Call us anyway and we will tell you straight whether a bond applies to your situation before you spend anything.
Because Orange County splits some calendars by case type rather than by city. Juvenile, family law, domestic violence restraining order and certain traffic matters are heard at Lamoreaux, even though that same city's adult criminal filings go to Central, Harbor, North or West.
The court's own location page lists 341 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868, and that is what we publish. Some directories print 2341. The notice to appear is the final word — check it before you drive.
Yes, and it happens often. A restraining order calendar can sit here while the criminal charge from the same incident is filed at the city's designated criminal justice center. They are separate hearings with separate dates.
California bail premiums are regulated under Insurance Code §1800 at 10% of the face amount of the bond, and qualifying cosigners can start with as low as 1% down on a written payment plan.
At the Intake Release Center, 550 N. Flower Street in Santa Ana. That cashier window runs 24 hours a day, including every day the courthouse is closed.
We answer around the clock, we tell you what it costs before you pay anything, and we put the next court date in writing so nobody misses it.
