Call (469) 480-1368Not every Dallas County arrest starts in the county jail. Knowing where the booking actually happened is the difference between a five-minute search and hours of dead ends.
You need the full legal name and, ideally, the date of birth. Nicknames and misspellings are the most common reason a search comes back empty.
The Dallas County Sheriff's jail lookup covers everyone in county custody, including the Lew Sterrett towers and the Decker facility.
Arrests made by Dallas, Irving, Garland, Mesquite, Grand Prairie, or Richardson police often begin in that city's municipal jail. Those bookings do not appear in the county system until the person is transferred, which usually happens within 24 hours.
Booking generally takes four to eight hours, and longer on weekends and holidays. If the name does not appear yet, wait and search again rather than assuming the arrest did not happen.
If the search is not returning results, call (469) 480-1368. The licensed agents we connect you with check county, municipal, and surrounding-county systems and confirm the bond amount at the same time.
Once you know where your loved one is being held, the next question is the bond. Texas law shapes both how bail is set and what a bail bond costs.
Article 17.15 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure directs the magistrate to set bail high enough to secure the defendant's appearance, but not as an instrument of oppression, weighing the nature of the offense, the defendant's ability to make bail, and the safety of the community and the victim.
Read Art. 17.15Article 17.028, added by the Damon Allen Act, requires a magistrate to make a bail decision without unnecessary delay and no later than 48 hours after arrest. That window is when having a bondsman ready matters most — the bond can be posted the moment it is set.
Read Chapter 17Bail bond sureties in Texas are licensed and regulated under Chapter 1704 of the Texas Occupations Code. Premiums typically run about 10% of the face amount of the bond, and qualified cosigners can start with a lower down payment on a written plan.
Read Ch. 1704| Bail Amount | Typical 10% Premium | Payment Plan Available |
|---|---|---|
| $1,500 | $150 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
| $5,000 | $500 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
| $10,000 | $1,000 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
| $25,000 | $2,500 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
| $50,000 | $5,000 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
| $100,000 | $10,000 | Yes, with an approved cosigner |
Examples only. The exact premium and down payment depend on the charge, the court, and cosigner qualification. Call (469) 480-1368 for an exact quote before anything is signed.
Each jail facility has its own rules regarding visitation. Always confirm the current schedule with the facility before traveling — hours and policies change.

From the moment of the arrest to the moment the bond is posted, here is the sequence — and where the delays usually come from.
An officer takes the person into custody somewhere in Dallas County and transports them to the booking facility that serves that agency. Nothing about bail can start until that transport is finished.
Identity, fingerprints, photograph, property inventory and a records check. This is the step that usually takes the longest, and it is why a name can be missing from the online roster for hours after an arrest actually happened.
A magistrate sets the amount, usually within 48 hours of the arrest, working from the county's bond schedule and the person's history and ties to the area.
We take the defendant's full name and date of birth, confirm the bail amount, and review the cosigner's situation. Paperwork is signed electronically — nobody has to drive to an office in the middle of the night.
A licensed agent posts the bond at the facility. Release then runs on the jail's clock — it can be under an hour at a small facility and considerably longer at a busy Dallas County intake.
If the bond was written on a plan, the written schedule starts from the date of posting. The terms are fixed in the agreement up front — there are no charges added later that were not on the page you signed.
These are typical ranges, not quotes. The controlling number is the amount on the county bail or bond schedule for the specific charge, or the amount a judge sets at the first appearance — call (469) 480-1368 with the booking number and we will read you the actual figure.
| Charge | Typical bail | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Class C misdemeanor (traffic, minor) | $300 – $1,000 | Frequently resolved with a personal bond or a same-day release. |
| DWI (first offense) | $1,000 – $3,000 | An ignition-interlock condition is common on release. |
| Possession of a controlled substance | $2,000 – $10,000 | Weight and prior history drive the number more than anything else. |
| Theft (state jail felony) | $2,500 – $10,000 | Value thresholds decide misdemeanor versus felony. |
| Assault — family violence | $5,000 – $25,000 | A magistrate's protective order is normally attached to release. |
| Aggravated assault | $20,000 – $75,000 | Deadly-weapon findings raise the amount. |
| Burglary of a habitation | $25,000 – $50,000 | Prior convictions push it higher. |
| Bail jumping / failure to appear | Reset by the court | The original bond is forfeited and a new one has to be approved. |
The court forfeits the bond and issues a warrant. Failing to appear can also be charged on its own as bail jumping under Texas Penal Code §38.10.
The cosigner guaranteed the full face amount of the bond, not the premium. If the bond is forfeited and not reinstated, that full amount — plus recovery costs — becomes their responsibility.
A missed date is often fixable if we hear about it early. Courts routinely allow the bond to be reinstated when the person comes in voluntarily and quickly. Call (469) 480-1368 before the warrant is served.
