Los Alamitos, Orange County

Bail Bonds In
Los Alamitos, CA

Los Alamitos incorporated on March 1, 1960 and covers just 4.07 square miles in the north-west corner of Orange County, with 11,951 residents on the California Department of Finance's 2026 estimate. For a city that small it carries two genuinely notable institutions: the Joint Forces Training Base and the USA Water Polo National Aquatic Center.

The Los Alamitos Police Department is an independent full-service agency at 3201 Katella Avenue with roughly 25 sworn officers. Calls are dispatched through West Cities Police Communications — WestComm — a regional centre shared with Cypress and Seal Beach as well as the Orange County Parks Rangers.

Shared dispatch does not mean shared custody. An arrest here is a Los Alamitos PD arrest, held in the city's own system first, and the countywide Sheriff's inmate search will not show the person until the transfer into the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana is complete.

Who Books Los Alamitos Arrests — And Where They're Held

Los Alamitos arrests start with the Los Alamitos Police Department's own facility before any transfer into county custody, so a county search in the first hours can legitimately come back empty. Once the transfer happens, the county system below is where the record lives.

Where Bail Is Set

Bail is set once booking is complete, regardless of whether the arrest came from Los Alamitos Police Department. Most bail amounts follow the countywide schedule set under Penal Code §1269b — not a city-specific schedule — and a judge can raise or lower it at arraignment. If you cannot locate your loved one right after a Los Alamitos-area arrest, call us and we will tell you exactly where they are.

Intake Release Center (IRC), Santa Ana

Los Alamitos runs its own police department, so the first hours look different from a Sheriff's contract city. Los Alamitos PD may hold someone at the department before transferring them to the county Intake Release Center at 550 N. Flower St in Santa Ana.

Once the transfer happens, the county Intake Release Center handles booking, classification and release. Men are housed at the Central Men's Jail or moved out to Theo Lacy in Orange; women stay in the Central Women's Jail in the same Santa Ana complex.

Two counters can be in play: the Los Alamitos Police Department while the person is still at the department, and the IRC once county booking is complete. We check both rather than guessing.

The cashier window at the IRC takes bail 24 hours a day. The Theo Lacy cashier does not — it runs 8am to 5pm — which is why an overnight bond almost always gets posted in Santa Ana.

Bail Amounts In Los Alamitos — And What It Costs You

Bail set at booking follows Orange County's uniform bail schedule adopted under Penal Code §1269b, so amounts in Los Alamitos match the countywide figures — there is no separate Los Alamitos schedule. Premiums are regulated under Insurance Code §1800 and typically run 10% of the bail amount.

State-Regulated Rate: 10%

Bail Payment Breakdown

Total Bail Amount10% Premium (Total Cost)1% Down (To Start)
$5,000$500$50
$10,000$1,000$100
$25,000$2,500$250
$50,000$5,000$500
$100,000$10,000$1,000

Examples only. The 1% tier requires approved credit and a qualifying cosigner.

How The Math Works

Bail is set at $25,000. California's regulated premium is 10%, so your cost is $2,500. The Bail Network posts the full $25,000 with the court. The premium is earned and non-refundable once the bond is posted — that is California Insurance Code §1800, not our policy. Qualifying families can arrange payment plans starting as low as 1% down.

What Bail Costs By Charge Level

Misdemeanor, petty theft, simple assault$1,000 – $10,000
DUI, drug possession$5,000 – $50,000
Domestic violence, felony assault$20,000 – $100,000
Felony theft / burglary$10,000 – $100,000
Serious violent felony (robbery, manslaughter)$50,000+
10%State-Regulated PremiumRate set under Cal. Ins. Code §1800

Legal Authority

Bail schedules are set by the Orange County Superior Court judges in accordance with California Penal Code §1269b. Specific amounts may vary based on prior convictions and special circumstances.

Payment Plans — How Families Actually Pay

The premium is regulated, but how you pay it is not one-size-fits-all. Qualifying families can start as low as 1% down and pay the balance on a written schedule.

Payment Plans

Flexible schedules on the premium itself — ask about monthly arrangements built around what you actually earn.

Collateral Options

Many bonds, especially lower-tier misdemeanors and first-offense DUIs, do not require collateral at all.

Multiple Payment Methods

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, ACH bank transfer, Zelle, and cash.

The 10% premium is non-refundable once the bond is posted, regardless of the case outcome — that is California law (Insurance Code §1800), not Bail Network policy.

Qualifications

Who Qualifies — Bail Denial And Down-Payment Tiers

Misdemeanor Arrests — Almost Always Bailable

The county bail schedule adopted under Penal Code §1269b applies, so no judge is required for most cases. Release is often same-day once bail is set and the bond is posted.

Felony Arrests — Usually Bailable

Bail is commonly set at arraignment, and Penal Code §1270.1 requires a formal hearing before release on certain serious or violent felonies.

Bail-Denial Cases — Bail May Be Denied

Under Article I, §12 of the California Constitution, bail can be denied for capital offenses and for violent or sexual-assault felonies where the evidence is strong. In re Humphrey (2021) requires courts to weigh ability to pay before setting an unaffordable amount.

Domestic Violence — Protective Orders Apply

An Emergency Protective Order is often issued at arrest, with a longer Criminal Protective Order possible at arraignment. No-contact conditions typically apply on release — read them carefully before going home.

When Bail Can Be Denied

Under Article I, §12 of the California Constitution, bail can be denied for capital offenses, and for felonies involving acts of violence or sexual assault on another person, when the facts are evident and the presumption of guilt is great.

In In re Humphrey (2021), the California Supreme Court held that a court cannot set bail an arrestee is unable to afford without first considering their ability to pay and less restrictive alternatives. That argument is made at the bail hearing itself.

Payment Options

Down-Payment Tiers

1% is the lowest down payment we offer, but 5% is generally the sweet spot for bail bond payments.

  • 1%
    1% downLowest Down

Strongest cosigner profile — good credit, long employment, homeowner or verifiable equity.

  • 3%
    3% down

Solid credit and stable work history, with a local cosigner.

  • 5%
    5% downSweet Spot

Mixed credit or shorter work history, still with a qualifying cosigner.

  • 10%
    10% down

No cosigner, thin credit, prior failure-to-appear history, or a high-exposure charge.

We tell you the tier you actually qualify for before anything is signed — never a low number quoted to get you off the phone.
