Fresno County North Annex Jail — Facility Overview
North Annex Jail opened in 1993 at 1265 M Street, immediately beside the 1989 Main Jail and connected to it by the same underground tunnel system used across the downtown complex.
Three of Fresno County's four jail facilities — Main Jail, North Annex, and West Annex — are physically connected by underground tunnels, so a person can move between buildings without ever appearing to leave the complex. A locator result naming a different building than you were told usually reflects an internal move, not a transfer out of the county.
North Annex shares its address with two working courtrooms: Departments 95 and 96 of Fresno County Superior Court are at 1265 M Street — the very same address as this jail. That is not a coincidence of numbering; those in-custody departments sit inside the jail complex itself, which is why an early in-custody appearance can happen without the person leaving the building.
Because North Annex and Main Jail are effectively one complex, being told a loved one is at North Annex rather than Main Jail rarely changes anything practical about posting a bond. It does change which counter you stand at, which is exactly the kind of detail we confirm before you leave the house.
