Satellite Jail is a distinct minimum-security facility at 110 "M" Street with a 200-bed capacity, located roughly two miles south of the downtown custody core. It primarily holds people accused of misdemeanor offenses who have not posted bail, along with people serving short sentences.
It is worth naming clearly, because the Sheriff's own summary of the jail system does not count it — that summary describes three jails. Satellite Jail is nonetheless a real, operating, separate facility with its own address, and a family sent to the downtown complex to find someone housed here has lost an afternoon for no reason.
Unlike Main Jail, North Annex, and West Annex, Satellite Jail is not connected to the others by tunnel. Getting between them means an actual drive.
